Borussia Dortmund are in talks to sign PSV sensation Donyell Malen by Friday as Liverpool wait in the background, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The German club are in pole position to sign the 22-year-old but have set a clear target over finalising a potential deal.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Dortmund have told PSV the deal must be wrapped up by Friday night in order for Malen to join their pre-season training camp in Switzerland.

Should an agreement not be in place by that time, they will pull the plug on their pursuit.

Liverpool have been strongly linked with Malen in recent weeks.

The source explained there is an interest in the forward from Jurgen Klopp's side but he is not one of their top targets and there has been no contact with PSV up to this point.

Malen, who is represented by super agent Mino Raiola, has three years left on his contract in Eindhoven.

He contributed a staggering 27 goals and 10 assists for PSV last season - only VVV-Venlo's Georgios Giakoumakis scored more in the Eredivisie.

Ibrahima Konate has been the only arrival at Anfield so far this summer.

The club is expected to make more signings later in the window but the immediate priority is moving fringe players on.

Marko Gruijic and Taiwo Awoniyi have this week been sold for a combined fee of £17million, while Divock Origi, Xherdan Shaqiri, Harry Wilson, Neco Williams and Nat Phillips could follow.
