Man United have opened talks with Jesse Lingard over a new long-term contract, Football Insider understands.

The Premier League giants are keen to tie down the attacking midfielder, 28, with his current deal expiring at the end of the season.

A United source has told Football Insider the club are lining up an extremely lucrative new offer that they will present to Lingard in the coming weeks.

The England international has already rejected the offer of a contract extension from United.

This comes amid concerns about his playing time, which have been increased following the summer signings of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho.

United are keen to protect the value of a player they wanted £30m for in the recent window.

The Premier League giants want his future sorted ahead of the January window and put an end to speculation about where he could be playing in the second half of the season.

Manager Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to keep hold of Lingard and has been true to his word by giving him more game time following his outstanding spell on loan at West Ham.

The United academy product came off the bench to score the winner in yesterday's 2-1 Premier League win over the Irons.

It capped a dramatic week for Lingard, whose error in midweek led to Young Boys sealing a last-gap Champions League victory after he had netted in United's 4-1 win over Newcastle United.
