Man United are set to announce the completion of Sir Jim Ratcliffe's investment in the club at the start of next week, sources have told Football Insider.

The British billionaire is buying 25% of the Red Devils in a huge deal reportedly worth £1.25billion.

Ratcliffe agreed to buy a stake in the club after rival bidder Sheikh Jassim of Qatar pulled out of the takeover process.

This deal could be the first step in acquiring a majority stake in Man United from the Glazer family - who have been the subject of fan frustration in recent years.

The 71-year-old is expected to take control of footballing affairs at Old Trafford once the deal is complete - despite only buying a quarter of the club.

That power is already leading to behind-the-scenes changes, with the club announcing the departure of club CEO Richard Arnold last month.

Further sweeping changes are planned under the new regime.

Manager Erik ten Hag's job is under major threat and Football Insider revealed on 29 November that Crystal Palace’s Dougie Freedman is a leading candidate to be the new Man United director of football.

Ratcliffe is also planning to include the Old Trafford club in an international network of top sides.

His INEOS company already own Ligue 1 outfit OGC Nice and Swiss side Lausanne – and those sides would be used by United to loan out their players.

Man United

At present, Man United sit seventh in the Premier League with pressure building on manager Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils are also on the brink of being eliminated from the Champions League at the group stage.
