Oxford United midfielder Mark Sykes is undergoing a Bristol City medical on Monday, Football Insider understands.

The Championship club are on the verge of completing the signing of the 24-year-old on a free transfer.

A Bristol City source has told Football Insider that Sykes is set for medical tests as he puts the finishing touches to the move.

He has reached an agreement on a contract with the second-tier outfit after running down his deal at Oxford United.

Sykes is set to put pen to paper on a three-year deal at Ashton Gate.

The centre-midfielder has contributed eight goals and eight assists in 45 appearances across all competitions this season - only Gavin Whyte has more assists to his name for the U's in that time.

A signing from Glenavon in January 2019, Sykes has established himself as an integral player at the Kassam Stadium over the past three campaigns.

Sykes was omitted from Oxford's squad for final game of the season against Doncaster Rovers, with the game finishing 1-1 (30 April).

As quoted by the Oxford Mail (29 April), U's boss Karl Robinson stated prior to the match that he would only pick players who are expected to be at the club next season.

Sykes made 136 appearances in total for Oxford United.

He is set to join a Bristol City side who finished 17th in the Championship this season.
