Leeds United have agreed to sign Barcelona left-back Junior Firpo, Football Insider has learned.

United have had a bid worth £12.8million in total for the 24-year-old accepted by the Spanish giants.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that rival clubs have been told to pull out of the race for Firpo as "he is going to Leeds".

Italian giants AC Milan and Inter Milan have also expressed an interest in the defender, while he has also been linked with Southampton.

But he is now headed to the Premier League club and is set to jet in to England to undergo a medical this week.

It is a major coup for Leeds to beat such prestigious clubs to a high-profile signing.

Landing a senior left-back has been a priority for United this summer regardless of whether Ezgjan Alioski remains at the club.

He has yet to accept the Whites' offer of a new and improved contract to replace his deal expiring tomorrow.

Firpo has pedigree and top-level experience from playing in the Champions League and the Spanish top flight.

He was not a regular starter for Barca last season but still 18 appearances in all competitions as an understudy to Jordi Alba.

Capped by Spain at Under-21 level, Firpo is an attacking left-back who is a regular scorer and creator of goals.

He has particularly effective going forward at former club Real Betis, who he swapped for Barca in 2019 for a fee of around £16million.

Leeds have moved for Firpo after previously holding talks over the captures of Stade Brest's Romain Perraud and Huesca's Javi Galan.
