MK Dons have tabled a bid for Walsall defender Zak Jules, Football Insider understands.

A recruitment source has now told Football Insider that MK Dons have submitted a formal offer for the 23-year-old.

Along with the Dons, Cardiff City, Huddersfield Town, Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham City, Portsmouth and Peterborough were all understood to have been in contact with Walsall about Jules.

A centre-back by trade, he has filled in at left-back for the Saddlers in recent weeks.

He moved to the Banks' Stadium at the beginning of last season and has played over 40 times across all competitions for the club.

Jules began his career at Reading but failed to make a first-team appearance for the Royals and spent time on loan at Hemel Hempstead Town, Braintree Town and Motherwell.

A season and a half at Shrewsbury followed but again he failed to feature for the first-team and instead enjoyed loan spells with Chesterfield, Port Vale and Barnet before joining Macclesfield Town permanently.

MK Dons manager Russell Martin revealed today he expects the club to be busy before Monday's 11 pm deadline.

He told the MK Citizen: "There will be outs and ins. I'm sure all will become clear in the next few days and then you've got to be open for something unexpected as well."
