Newcastle United are keen to add a striker to their ranks in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

And it is believed the forward line has been identified by the club as an area for improvement - despite the 8-0 demolition of Sheffield United on Sunday (24 September).

Newcastle

Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson currently share responsibilities with Newcastle set to play in four different competitions this season.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the Tyneside club want to add a "young striker" to that dynamic.

It is believed any potential understudy would learn under the seasoned duo and grow into a top player in his own right over time.

Wilson recently signed a contract extension at St James' Park keeping him at the club until June 2025.

The England international has hit four league goals already this season after notching 18 in the 2022-23 campaign.

Isak arrived at Newcastle just last summer for a reported fee of £63million, signing a contract running until June 2028.

He has already managed three goals in the English top flight this season after 11 across all competitions last term.

The Sweden international can also play out on the left flank for Eddie Howe's side, allowing Isak and Wilson to play together.

Newcastle

Newcastle sit eighth in the Premier League after picking up nine points from a possible 18.

They face Man City in the League Cup on Wednesday (27 September) before hosting Burnley on Saturday (30 September).
