Sources: Newman agrees to join West Ham after offer accepted
Rob Newman has quit Man City to become the new West Ham recruitment chief, Football Insider has learned.
This site broke the news on 7th July that Newman, 57, was in advanced talks with the Londoners over taking on the key role heading the club's transfer operation.
A West Ham source has told Football Insider that Newman has finalised terms after resigning from his post at City.
But he will not be able to link up with the Londoners straight away as he must work a notice period.
That is a blow to West Ham, who wanted Newman to be able to take on the job with a view to making a significant impact in this summer's window.
Nevertheless, the former Norwich City defender has been granted the seal of approval from David Moyes.
The manager made it clear during his own contract negotiations that he wanted the recruitment set-up to be modernised.
A major criticism of West Ham in recent years is co-owner David Sullivan's over-reliance on agents for the club's transfer business ahead of proven talent spotters.
Newman's exact title is unclear, with the Irons potentially naming him 'head of recruitment' rather than 'director of football'.
The last person to be in that post was Mario Husillos, who worked alongside Manuel Pellegrini before they were dismissed simultaneously in December 2019.
That heralded the return to West Ham for a second time of Moyes and the transformation of a team that finished second in last season's Premier League.
Newman has been the international scouting and recruitment manager at Man City, a post he has held since 2008.
The former Norwich City defender has previously had spells in management at Southend United and Cambridge United, and was also Kevin Bond's assistant manager at Bournemouth.
