Rangers defender Lee Hodson is jetting out for a medical at Major League Soccer side Montreal Impact ahead of a last-gasp transfer, Football Insider sources understands.

Ibrox manager Steven Gerrard has given the green light for the 23-times Northern Ireland international to sever his ties with the club he joined in the summer of 2016.

A well placed source has told Football Insider that Hodson is heading to the Canada-based outfit as manager Remi Garde, the former Villa boss, looks to seal a late deal before the MLS transfer window shuts tomorrow (Wednesday).

The full-back has had limited opportunities since joining from MK Dons and has slipped further down the pecking order following the signings of Jon Flanagan and Borna Barisic, who signed on a four-year contract today for a fee of £2.2million.

Rotherham United have been keen on taking Irishman Hodson back south of the border after learning he wanted a summer move.

But he is close to agreeing terms with Montreal and, barring a late hiccup, is expected to put pen to paper in the next 24 hours after a contract was offered.

Hodson, who began his career at Watford, also had spells with Brentford, Milton Keynes Dons and Kilmarnock before signing for Rangers when Mark Warburton was in charge for a fee of around £350,000.

In other news, a deal has been done for an international colossus.
