Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has passed a medical at Chelsea and is set to sign for the club on Friday (4 August), sources have told Football Insider.

The 25-year-old has penned a seven-year deal at Stamford Bridge after the Blues agreed a fee for his services.

Sanchez becomes Chelsea's sixth signing of the summer window under new boss Mauricio Pochettino.

The Londoners have already sealed deals for Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Lesley Ugochukwu, Angelo and Diego Moreira.

Sanchez, who had two years left to run on his Brighton contract, was frozen out of the side by Roberto de Zerbi mid-way through the 2022-23 campaign.

Seagulls boss De Zerbi chose to promote 32-year-old Jason Steele into the number one role – and was clear that he wanted to see improvement in Sanchez’s game.

But the Spain international, who earned his most recent call-up in March, will now exit the Amex Stadium.

Brighton have already moved to add a new goalkeeper this summer, with Bart Verbruggen joining the club from Anderlecht.

Sanchez notched 90 appearances in total on the south coast, conceding 102 goals and keeping 29 clean sheets.

He comes into Stamford Bridge just over a week before Chelsea's first competitive game under Pochettino.

The Blues kick their 2023-24 campaign off against Liverpool on 13 August.
