Rotherham United are working on a deal to sign Watford midfielder Domingos Quina, sources have told Football Insider.

The Championship strugglers are in talks with Watford to see if the 23-year-old's loan deal with La Liga club Elche can be cancelled early to allow him to make the move to South Yorkshire.

The attacking midfielder is currently on a season-long loan deal in Spain, but has made only 11 appearances in Spain with just three of them as a starter.

Former Chelsea and West Ham youngster Quina has been with Watford since the summer of 2018 but he’s spent much of his recent seasons out on loan having had stints at Granada, Fulham and Barnsley and now Elche.

Quina has made 37 appearances during his time with Watford and has scored three goals and provided two assists in those outings.

The midfielder was not in the squad for current club Elche's 3-0 defeat to Sevilla on 28 January.

The former Portugal youth international is sidelined with an injury and has missed the last four La Liga games for the Spanish club.

Rotherham are currently 20th in the Championship table and just six points clear of last-placed Wigan Athletic.

Sheffield Wednesday

Their current options in centre-mid include Ben Wiles, Oliver Rathbone, Jamie Lindsay and Ciaran McGuckin and are hoping to bolster their ranks with a deal for Quina.

Their next test is against second place Sheffield United on Saturday (4 February).
