Sheffield United are preparing to scour the loan market for potential January incomings, sources have told Football Insider.

The Blades cannot complete any more temporary deals within England having already brought James McAtee and Luke Thomas in on loan during the summer window.

But the European market remains an avenue available to Sheffield United - who could now add to their squad in January.

The 20th-place club sacked Paul Heckingbottom on Tuesday (5 December), replacing him with ex-boss Chris Wilder.

But a well-placed source has told Football Insider there won’t be “big money” available in January and he will, to some extent, have his hands tied in the transfer market.

That is despite the perilous situation the club find themselves in after 14 games of the 2023-24 campaign.

Sheffield United sold two of last season's top performers in the summer window, with Sander Berge and Iliman Ndiaye departing for Burnley and Marseille respectively with one year remaining on their contracts.

The Blades spent big-money fees on Cameron Archer and Gustavo Hamer following those departures, and those two players have been among their standout performers this season.

They were the fourth-lowest spenders in the summer window.

Wilder's side are four points from safety in the Premier League after their 5-0 loss against Burnley last time out.

The Blades are next in action against Liverpool on Wednesday night (6 December).
