Aston Villa have submitted a bid for Lucas Digne as they look to win the race for his signature in the coming days, Football Insider has learned.

The Midlands giants are the current frontrunners to land the Everton left-back and held talks over a potential deal on Sunday night.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Villa have tabled an offer for Digne, 28, as they close in on another big-name signing.

Aston Villa

The Midlands giants announced the loan-to-buy capture of Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona last Friday (7 January).

Everton want £30million for Digne, who joined from Barcelona in the summer of 2018.

Aston Villa are believed to have offered below that sum after initially discussing loan and loan-to-buy options for the Frenchman.

Everton want a permanent deal after completing the signings already this month of full-back duo Nathan Patterson and Vitaliy Mykolenko.

A number of other Premier League clubs have expressed an interest in the left-back but he does not want to join the likes of Newcastle United and be involved in a relegation battle.

As per BBC journalist Alastair Magowan, Rafa Benitez confirmed on Friday (7 January) that Digne has asked for a move away from Goodison Park.

The defender has been completely frozen out by the Toffees boss after a disagreement in training.

Everton

Digne has made 13 league appearances for Everton this season.

If he gets his move, he will leave Goodison Park after making 129 appearances for the club.
