Swansea City have agreed a deal for Barnsley boss Michael Duff to be appointed their new manager, sources have told Football Insider.

Russell Martin is set to leave the Swans to take over at Southampton after their relegation from the Premier League.

Despite that move being held up by a compensation wrangle, Championship side Swansea have been working on recruiting a successor.

They have made contact with Duff and a deal has now been agreed following a breakthrough in talks.

The 45-year-old guided Barnsley to the League One play-off final last season only to lose to Sheffield Wednesday.

Duff took charge of 58 games across all competitions this season, winning 32 of those, drawing nine and losing 17.

In League One, the Barnsley boss was victorious in 26 of his 46 games with an average of 1.87 points per match.

The 37-year-old secured a full agreement with the now-Championship side despite final details still needing ironed out.

Martin has repeatedly said he would be interested in extending his stay at the Welsh side but no new deal has materialised and he looks set for a move to fellow Championship side Southampton.

The Saints have already undergone changes to their management structure with Jason Wilcox arriving as their new director of football and Darren Mowbray as head of recruitment.
