Tony Weston has agreed a deal to join Derby County on a free transfer after leaving Rangers, sources have told Football Insider.

The striker, 19, is a free agent after his contract at Ibrox expired at the end of June.

Rangers signed Weston from Blackpool in the summer of 2020 and after impressing for the Ibrox club's B Team he spent last season on loan at Partick Thistle and Cove Rangers.

Weston made his only first-team appearance for Rangers against Hearts in May last year as a late substitute.

The striker made 31 appearances for Cove across all competitions last season but was in the starting lineup for just two of those outings.

Of his 26 Championship appearances, Weston played less than 400 minutes of football and failed to find the back of the net in the league and scored just one goal across all competitions.

Speaking to The Herald earlier this season (9 February), Weston said it was a "blow" to go out on loan and not get the opportunities that he wants.

The teenager said that there was a lot of "hype" around him when he came to Rangers and after a standout first season it added fuel to the fire but the forward insisted he is trying not to focus on the noise.

Derby are looking to push up the League One table next term after finishing seventh last term and just missing out on a potential play-off spot.

Paul Warne is looking to add attacking firepower to his first team squad ahead of next season and the club are on the look out for forward to link up with the development squad.
