West Bromwich Albion are ready to rival Swansea City for Yeovil defender Tom James, Football Insider sources understands.

Both clubs have made enquiries about James as they look to bolster their defensive options before the close of the transfer window.

Swansea have been leading the chase for the former Wales Under-19 international, but now West Brom are ready to firm up their interest in the 22-year-old as Darren Moore aims to add strength in depth to his squad at the Hawthorns.

James enjoyed an outstanding campaign for Yeovil last season, making 51 appearances in all competitions for the League Two club.

The right-back, who can play anywhere across the back line, impressed in Yeovil's run to the fourth round of the FA Cup and played in their clash with Manchester United.

James, who stands 5ft 11in tall, started his career at Cardiff and made his debut for them in the Premier League before joining Yeovil in January 2017.
