West Ham United are ready to hand midfielder Pedro Obiang a new deal to fend off interest from Sampdoria, Football Insider sources understands.

Sampdoria have been in talks with West Ham over a deal to bring Obiang, 26, back to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris this summer with the Italian side confident of striking a deal.

However, West Ham are reluctant to sell Obiang with new Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini seeing him as a key part of his plans at the London Stadium.

Obiang still has four years to run on his current contract at West Ham after signing a new deal just last summer, but the club are ready to offer him improved terms in a bid to keep him in East London.

Obiang impressed for West Ham last season, making 27 appearances in all competitions for the Hammers and chipping in with two goals including his stunning strike in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham at Wembley.

The news will come as a blow to Sampdoria as they hopeful of bring reunited with the midfielder who spent seven years at Sampdoria after joining the club from Atletico Madrid as a 16-year-old.

The all-action midfielder made 139 appearances for Sampdoria before leaving for West Ham in 2015.
