Wolves have made an approach to sign Norwich City defender Max Aarons as they rival Tottenham in the chase, Football Insider can reveal.

The Midlands giants are turned their attention to landing the right-back, 20, following the Canaries' Premier League relegation.

A Wolves source has told Football Insider the club have registered their interest in Aarons as they look to strengthen their back line ahead of the new season.

Tottenham face major competition now for a player they have been in pole position to sign since January.

The London giants laid the groundwork for a summer deal at the start of the year and had been making good progress for a player Jose Mourinho rates highly.

Football Insider revealed that a Spurs representative had been calling the Norwich man's camp "every day" in January to convince him to join.

Mourinho still has Aarons in his sights but Wolves represent a major rival in the chase for a stellar talent.

The super-quick England Under-21 has impressed in a struggling side and secured rave reviews from scouts and data analysts at clubs not just in the Premier League but from Europe's biggest leagues as well.

Daniel Farke's side did not want to let him go in the midwinter window and any potential exit was put on hold.

Aarons, who signed a new five-year Norwich contract last July, started 36 of City's 38 league matches this season after being a star player in their promotion campaign last term.
