Alan Hutton has tipped Djed Spence to push for a move to Tottenham over Nottingham Forest and Brentford this summer.

The former Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 21-year-old would grab the chance to join Spurs "with both hands".

Tottenham

Discussing his future at loan side Nottingham Forest, as quoted by the Nottingham Post (29 May), Spence said "I would love to stay, but it's not in my hands."

Hutton suggested a concrete move from Spurs could turn the defender's head.

Asked if Forest's promotion could throw a spanner in the works to Spurs' transfer plans, Hutton told Football Insider's Russell Edge: "Not really. He's had an outstanding season on loan from Middlesbrough.

"The supporters have really taken to him. He's given that back with some great performances.

"It doesn't surprise me that teams are looking at him. He's got all the attributes to be a top full-back or wing-back. He's saying the right things, he's obviously not a daft boy. That's what's coming out in the media.

"But if the likes of Tottenham are in for you, you look at it as a 21-year-old. There's an opportunity there to play with a big team in the Premier League, you're going to grab it with both hands.

"Yes, he's keeping everybody on side, but he'll be keeping his options open. I'm pretty sure about that."

Spence played 45 times in the league for Forest on the way to play-off glory.
