Thrown in the towel: Gabbidon piles more doom and gloom on West Ham

Former West Ham defender Danny Gabbidon believes that Slaven Bilic is on "borrowed time" at the London Stadium after a string of poor results.

The Hammers fell short of expectations last term as they finished in the bottom half of the Premier League and after losing their opening three games, it seems that despite spending big in the transfer market, there has been little improvement.

Gabbidon, 38, spent six years on the books at West Ham as managers were chopped and changed at a yearly basis.

He now thinks that there is now an air of resignation about how Bilic has been talking in recent weeks and it could now be a matter of when, not if, the Croat leaves his post.

“I look at Slaven at the moment and he looks a shadow of his former self," said the former Wales international about the West Ham chief, as quoted by the Mirror.

“From what I hear Slaven had pretty much thrown the towel in with the words he spoke in the dressing room to the players after the Newcastle defeat. He really is on borrowed time now.”

Despite spending big on getting in Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez, West Ham still have some serious issues in a squad that has conceded 10 goals in three league games.

Joe Hart and Pablo Zabaleta looked like good buys on paper, but their form in August was questionable to say the least while record signing Arnautovic's red card at Southampton proves he may cause more problems than he solves.

Gabbidon's comments pile yet more doom and gloom on West Ham after a spate or poor results and what was no doubt a very frustrating end to the summer transfer window after a record move for Sporting CP's William Carvalho broke down.

There has since been an ongoing war of words between the Irons and one of the Portuguese club's chiefs.
