Tottenham could beat Arsenal to Gabriel Jesus signing after latest development - expert
Tottenham should hijack Arsenal's move for Man City forward Gabriel Jesus this summer, according to Paul Robinson.
The former White Hart Lane number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 25-year-old would be the "perfect" player to provide cover and competition for Spurs' front three.
Jesus is expected to leave Etihad this summer as he enters the final 12 months of his contract.
Arsenal have held extensive talks with the player's representatives regarding a move to the Emirates.
According to The Telegraph's Mike McGrath (23 May), Spurs are poised to compete with Mikel Arteta's side for the Brazil international.
On Sunday (22 May), Tottenham secured Champions League football for next season at the expense of the Gunners.
Robinson insisted "there is only one winner" if Spurs and Arsenal compete for the same player.
"Jesus would make a lot of sense for Spurs," he told Football Insider's Dylan Childs.
"He can play wide and central. If Harry Kane is unavailable the load is going to have to be shared. He can't play every single game. A player of Jesus' ilk would be perfect.
"Would Jesus be happy to come in and rotate with Kane, Son [Heung-min] and [Dejan] Kulusevski? He could give Spurs similar strength in depth to Liverpool.
"It would be a massive signing for Spurs. It would be a statement. I would like to see him in a Spurs shirt.
"If Arsenal and Spurs are competing for the same player right now there is only one winner. When you consider facilities, manager and Champions League they are poles apart."
