Tottenham have tabled a bid for Napoli midfielder Amadou Diawara - and fans have reacted with excitement and scepticism on Twitter.

Italian site Transfer Market Web claim the north Londoners have submitted an "opening" offer for the Guinean player, 20, and that the second-placed Serie A club are willing to sell at the right price this summer.

Diawara has made 55 appearances for Napoli since joining from fellow Serie A club Bologna in the summer of 2016 but could be offloaded in order to keep hold of star man Jorginho.

The central midfielder has been linked with Tottenham in recent months and reports of a formal bid come at a time when the future of Mousa Dembele is up in the air.

The Belgian has been Spurs' outstanding central midfielder in recent seasons but he turns 31 in July and has struggled with niggling injuries.

Tottenham fans have hailed Diawara's potential, with a number remarking on his impressive statistics and power, while others claimed that the supposed bid is unlikely to have amounted to much.
