Paul Robinson has claimed Tottenham will be Willian's "first choice" this summer despite the player's loyalties to Chelsea.

The former White Hart Lane number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, cited the 31-year-old's relationship with Jose Mourinho and want to stay in London as reasons why.

Willian is available on a free transfer this June after contract talks at Stamford Bridge collapsed.

Frank Lampard's side were unwilling to match the player's demands of a three-year deal.

The Brazilian told the Desimpedidos YouTube channel "it would be fine" to move to a Spurs or Arsenal despite both clubs seen as rivals in the eyes of Chelsea fans.

Football Insider understands Newcastle United are set to rival the north London clubs for the winger this summer but Robinson suspects Willian will opt to stay in the capital.

"Willian will not come cheap wages wise," he told Football Insider.

"A player that has a great relationship with Mourinho. If the player wants to stay in London and Tottenham was an option for him, you would imagine that would be his first choice.

"Loyalties towards Chelsea would have to be put to one side.

"I do not think it would take long for him to win over the Spurs fans. A lot of Spurs fans would take him with open arms because he is a top-class player."

Daniel Levy wants the Brazil international as the Lilywhites' first summer signing and is, therefore, set to table the player a lucrative contract.

In 37 appearances this season, Willian has scored seven goals and provided six assists.
