Tottenham are planning to sign a new centre-back and a goalkeeper when the January transfer window opens as they look to back Ange Postecoglou.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who remains well-connected at the club, explained that they are turning their attentions towards the transfer market ahead of the window opening.

That is despite pressure building on the manager's position as a result of their inconsistent performances in the first half of the season.

Injuries to both Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have left Tottenham short of options at the back, with 18-year-old Archie Gray forced to fill in as a makeshift option against Rangers.

Meanwhile, Robinson explained that a new goalkeeper will also be on their shortlist given the injury to Guglielmo Vicario which has forced Fraser Forster into a starring role.

The 33-year-old shot-stopper has performed well when called upon to feature between the sticks, but there is a feeling that a new option will be necessary.

Tottenham plot January swoop for new centre-back and goalkeeper

While Forster has been called upon to start in Postecoglou's side, 26-year-old Alfie Whiteman has been called upon as the backup option, and there is a feeling he will need to be improved upon.

Robinson, who lifted the League Cup with Tottenham in 2008 and made over 130 Premier League appearances for the club, insisted that

"It'll be a centre-back and a goalkeeper," he told Football Insider.

"A new centre-back and a new goalkeeper will be the two areas they look at in January.

"Fraser Forster has done really well, but I think they need somebody alongside him because behind him they've got nothing."
