Tottenham are working on a deal to sign a new centre-back this summer to provide Ange Postecoglou with more strength in depth.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who is very well connected at his former club, revealed Spurs risk having Radu Dragusin as the only fit centre-back next season due to Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero’s injury records.

Tottenham were left short defensively towards the back end of last year, with Emerson Royal and Ben Davies forced to play as makeshift centre-backs due to injuries within the side.

Romero has been linked with a move to Real Madrid recently, but Football Insider revealed it would take an “astronomical” bid for Spurs to cash in on the Argentine

Tottenham to sign new defender after Cristian Romero update

Robinson doesn’t believe there is any chance Tottenham will sell the centre-back this summer due to his importance to the side.

“Tottenham are going to look to strengthen at centre-half,” he told Football Insider

“I thought Dragusin was outstanding as part of the Romanian team that beat Ukraine in their opening game at the Euros.

“Tottenham fans haven’t seen a lot of him this season, but you saw in that game alone why they signed him.

“As far as Romero goes, they are not going to let him go.

“They are going to strengthen in that area.

“With Van de Ven and Romero’s injury records, Dragusin could end up being the only fit centre-half so I think that’s an area they will recruit in.”
