Liverpool have finally confirmed the signing of Newcastle attacking midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.

Liverpool announced the signing on Friday and Wijnaldum has reportedly been given a five-year deal at Anfield worth £75,000 a week.

Earlier today, ex-Liverpool star Dirk Kuyt praised the imminent signing of Wijnaldum and said that the Reds are heading in the right direction under Klopp.

Wijnaldum was one of the bright points in a dismal season for Newcastle, and was their top scorer with 11 goals in 38 appearances. Compare that with the Magpies' second highest scorer, Aleksandar Mitrovic, who only managed eight goals in the 2015/16 campaign.

The attacking midfielder will wear the number five shirt for Liverpool, as he did at Newcastle.

Here’s the official announcement, Wijnaldum's first tweet and what Liverpool fans made of the signing. As expected, the Twitter world was split with delighted Reds fans and disgruntled Magpies.

Wijnaldum arrived at St James’ Park from PSV Eindhoven in July 2015. At PSV he hit an impressive 41 goals in 109 appearances, and captained PSV to the Eredivisie title in 2014/15 – their first title since 2008.
