Sources: West Ham agree terms with Doherty
West Ham have appointed Mick Doherty to their recruitment team following his exit from Celtic, sources have told Football Insider.
The talent spotter was linked with a move to the Irons last month after leaving the Glasgow giants, but there was confusion over whether a deal had been agreed.
It is believed that Doherty has now agreed terms with West Ham and has taken on a role responsible for scouting and sourcing emerging talent and rising stars.
He is an experienced talent spotter after previously holding senior recruitment roles at Everton, Chelsea and Sunderland, as well as at Celtic.
Doherty is renowned for finding Seamus Coleman when he was at League of Ireland club Sligo Rovers and recommending him to then-Everton boss David Moyes.
The £60,000 capture has gone on to be one of the outstanding full-backs in the Premier League over the last decade, since his 2009 move to Goodison Park.
At West Ham, Doherty will have a similar role focusing on identifying top young players capable of joining the West Ham youth set-up and, eventually, graduating into their senior squad.
The London club have a completely different recruitment structure to most other Premier League team, with their scouting network far smaller than rivals.
Club owner David Sullivan has long preferred to use a cadre of trusted agents for signing players, a policy that has not always drawn favour with Moyes.
