West Ham midfielder Sofiane Feghouli is close to agreeing a January transfer to Roma, according to a report.

Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed on his website that there were "productive discussions" between the two clubs on Friday afternoon about a deal this month.

It is said that there is a growing confidence among all parties that a loan-to-buy transfer can be agreed following this breakthrough in talks.

Negotiations have centred on a deal in which Roma would pay the Hammers a loan fee to take Feghouli for the rest of the season with an option to buy him permanently for £10.3million in the summer.

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic appears willing to let the Algeria international leave after he struggled to make an impact following his free transfer from Valencia last summer.

Feghouli, 27, has made 15 appearances in all competitions for the Hammers, which have yielded just one goal and a single assist.

Roma are in the market for a wide midfielder this month as they attempt to keep the title pressure on Serie A leaders Juventus.

Luciano Spalletti's side are second in the table and four points behind the reigning champions, although Juve do have a match in hand.

In other West Ham transfer news, the club have been installed odds-on favourites to sign a Premier League midfield goal machine this month.
