West Ham boss David Moyes has blocked the club from completing the signing of Arnaut Danjuma, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The club's pursuit of the Villarreal forward, 25, has resulted in a power struggle behind the scenes involving the manager and the hierarchy.

A West Ham source has told Football insider that the 'GSB' alliance led by David Sullivan and David Gold have been pushing hard for Danjuma and held extensive talks over a potential deal.

Negotiations advanced to the stage where an agreement was within grasp at the end of last week.

But Moyes has urged club chiefs to hold fire on the deal because, the source explained, Danjuma is third or fourth on the manager's own list of forward targets.

The transfer is now on hold and Moyes is instead prioritising other attacking targets.

He wants to bring in a free-scoring striker who can compete with Michail Antonio for the spearhead role, as well as an attacking midfielder.

Jesse Lingard remains a top target of the manager but, as revealed by Football Insider on Monday, the player's £150,000-a-week wage demands are putting West Ham off.

Danjuma is valued around the £35million mark by Villarreall after making a big impact since his £21m move from Bournemouth last summer.

He has caught the attention of clubs including Liverpool and Man United for a series of electrifying displays.

Danjuma scored 16 goals and supplied four assists from 34 matches in all competitions last season.

He made 52 appearances for the Bournemouth across two seasons, scoring 17 goals and supplying eight assists in all competitions.
