West Ham are expected to confirm a scholarship deal for teenage goalkeeper Daniel Jinadu in the coming weeks, according to a report.

All Nigeria Soccer has claimed on their website that the Hammers are due to announce Jinadu, 16, as one of their scholars for next season after quitting Chelsea and moving to the London Stadium in the January transfer window.

It was understood that the England Under-16 international had attracted major attention before he moved to West Ham with Southampton, Tottenham, Leicester, Birmingham, West Brom and AC Milan all said to be keeping close tabs on him.

After moving to the Hammers, Jinadu earned a recall to the England youth set-up and played in a 2-0 win over Russia and a 3-3 draw with Brazil.

The report adds that although the goalkeeper is representing the Young Lions, he is also eligible for Nigeria and the Republic of Ireland.

Football Insider verdict

West Ham appear to have done very well by coaxing Jinadu away from Chelsea. It may be that the young goalkeeper has realised that Stamford Bridge is the completely wrong place to be for any youngster looking to break into senior football due to the very limited number of youngsters to make the grade there. West Ham on the other hand are always promoting young players. It is not happening as often as it used to but the Irons faithful can still remain proud of their academy. Beating the likes of Spurs and AC Milan is also a major sign that Jinadu is a very talent young shot-stopper.
