Paul Robinson insists West Ham will return for Jesse Lingard in January after failing to sign him this summer.

The former Tottenham stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims this potential deal could be another loan.

The Telegraph reported (August 31st) that the Hammers baulked at United’s £30million asking price for the midfielder, who has just one year left on his contract.

Lingard hit incredible form while on loan at the London Stadium last season, scoring nine goals in 16 games.

Earlier this summer, West Ham first-team coach Stuart Pearce told TalkSPORT how the club want Lingard to "come and join them".

Robinson insists Lingard will struggle for game time at Old Trafford after Cristiano Ronaldo rejoined the club. and tipped the Hammers to strike a loan-to-buy deal in January.

"Don't expect West Ham to not revisit Lingard in January," Robinson told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs.

"Lingard's game time will be limited with the arrival of Ronaldo. James leaving for Leeds scuppered any chance of Lingard going out.

"Come January, if that's the same situation I think West Ham will go back in for him.

"Even if it's just another loan until the end of the season. I think any deal that gets done will be a loan with the view to a permanent signing.

"From the outside looking it, you can see what's going to happen. If I had a crystal ball, I'd stick a tenner on him going to West Ham in January."
