West Ham will offer Pedro Obiang a new contract to stop him joining Liverpool, according to a report.

Hammers site West Ham Way claim the midfield kingpin is one of the raft of senior players who the club want to tie down to long-term agreements.

It is said that the east Londoners also want to hand fresh contracts to attacking midfielder Michail Antonio, centre-back Angelo Ogbonna and manger Slaven Bilic.

West Ham Way, which is written by the self-styled 'Ex-WHU employee' and has a reputation as a reliable source of information about the club, claim Obiang is on the radar of Liverpool.

One of the Hammers' reasons for a new contract is staving off the Merseysiders, who are expected to be in the market for at least one central midfielder this summer.

Obiang joined West Ham from Sampdoria in the summer of 2015 for a fee of around £5million and struggled to nail down a regular starting spot last season, with Mark Noble and Cheikhou Kouyate the preferred combination.

But the former Spain Under-21 international has been a mainstay of the team this season and has been key to the team's renaissance since December.

Obiang has started 19 of the Hammers' 27 Premier League fixtures and has been arguably their outstanding player in recent months.

His contract with the London club runs until the summer of 2019, which means they could be vulnerable to a summer bid.
