Revealed: Newcastle agree terms of £45m deal in fee & wages
Newcastle United will make Callum Wilson one of their best-paid players as they finalise a blockbuster deal worth £45milllion in total, Football Insider understands.
The north-east giants have seen off strong competition from Aston Villa to agree the signing of the striker from Bournemouth as the formalities of the deal are completed today.
Recruitment sources have told Football Insider that Newcastle have had a £20m bid accepted for Wilson, 28, and have also agreed a five-year contract with him worth around £100,000-a-week.
The deal will catapult the England international into the top bracket of earners at St James' Park and end the big concern of Steve Bruce about the lack of firepower in his squad.
Wilson is set to undergo a medical at Newcastle today and put pen to paper on a contract after travelling up to Tyneside yesterday.
Aston Villa also had a bid for the forward accepted by Bournemouth on Saturday, as revealed by Football Insider.
But, by that point, Wilson had agreed personal terms with Newcastle and it was always his preference to make the move to St James' Park.
Newcastle had initially offered Bournemouth Matt Ritchie plus cash in a bid to land Wilson ahead of their top-flight rivals.
But they moved quickly to agree a deal independent of Ritchie, which could still go ahead as a separate transfer.
Newcastle's need for a proven goalscorer has been particularly acute this window following Joelinton's dismal debut campaign and the knee injury that has ruled Dwight Gayle out for three months.
Wilson has netted 41 times from 128 Premier League matches, including eight in 35 games last season as the Cherries went down.
