Tony Xia has rejected the possibility that former Chelsea legend Didier Drogba could make sensational move to Aston Villa.

The Chinese businessman and Villa owner was asked on Twitter whether the Championship club were going to sign one of the Premier League greats and made an emphatic response on his personal Twitter account.

Drogba, 38, currently plays for Canadian side Montreal Impact in the MLS but has been linked with a move to the recently relegated Championship side on social media.

The Ivory Coast legend spent nine years at Stamford Bridge in two spells, first representing the club between 2004 and 2012 before rejoining them in the 2014-15 season.

With the London side he played 381 times and scored 164 times, winning a Champions League, four Premier Leagues, four FA Cups and three League Cups in that time.

The striker has also played for Galatasaray, Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua and Marseille and in his career has scored 275 times in 635 appearances.

Aston Villa have made a number of signings this summer, spending £36 million on players including Mile Jedinak, Tommy Elphick, James Chester, Pierluigi Gollini and Aaron Tshibola while they continue to search for a striker to join summer recruit Ross McCormack up front.

Goal.com claimed on Thursday afternoon that Villa have tabled a £9million bid for Wolfsburg striker Bas Dost and are in competition with Newcastle to sign the 27-year-old striker.
