Traore and £9m Aston Villa teammate tipped to be binned in January after source reveal - Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested Aston Villa could sell Trezeguet and Bertrand Traore in the January transfer window.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer claimed Steven Gerrard will try and strengthen his wide options by recruiting from across Europe.

An Aston Villa source told Football Insider earlier this week (29 November) the club are planning to offload two out of three from Traore, Trezeguet and Anwar El Ghazi.

Traore and Trezeguet, signed for £9m in 2019, are both currently out with injury and are yet to feature under Gerrard.

El Ghazi came off the bench in his first two game’s in charge and provided an assist

“Trezeguet, El Ghazi and Traore are all good players but I don’t think they are players that can take Villa to where the owners want to go,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Come January, if Gerrard has got money to spend, I think he will strengthen at left-wing. I like El Ghazi, I think he can do a job but with Traore, Trezeguet I’m not sure.

“Both are good players but where Aston Villa, as a club, want to go, I’m sure Steven Gerrard will want more quality coming off the wing.

“Trezeguet has had a bad injury so I’m sure he’ll be given a chance to impress Gerrard.

“I just feel Aston Villa might be looking at better players across Europe to try and bring in.”

El Ghazi scored 10 times in 28 Premier League games last term and has three goals and three assists in all competitions to his name this term.

Trezeguet has not featured since suffering an ACL injury in April while Traore has not started a Premier League game this term.
