Traore has 'caught Conte's eye' at Tottenham as new price tag revealed - pundit
Adama Traore could be a "match-winner" from the bench if he seals a move to Tottenham, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 25-year-old will have "caught the eye" of Spurs boss Antonio Conte with his improved displays.
As reported by The Telegraph (2 January), Tottenham are considering a move for Traore in the winter window after seeing two bids rejected in the summer window.
A Wolves source has told Football Insider on Wednesday (5 January) the winger may be available for just £18million after being valued at £50m in August.
Whelan suggested the Barcelona academy product has fine-tuned his end product in recent years.
“When you’re talking about signing game-changers and match-winners from the bench, wow, Traore is the perfect fit,” he told Football Insider's Ewan Kingsbury.
“He can produce something from nothing. That’s the excitement about him – the unknown, the power, the way he can drive past players and brush them off.
“He’s proven in the last few years now that he’s not just a one-trick pony. There never used to be any end product to his game, but now he’s improved that. He picks the best pass a lot more often now.
“And that is what will have caught the eye of managers like Antonio Conte. By all means, £18m for a danger man and super-sub like Traore – that’d be a real luxury for Spurs.”
Tottenham sit two points behind fourth-placed Arsenal with two games in hand on their north London rivals.
Conte is yet to taste defeat in the Premier League since taking the reins at Spurs.
