Tuanzebe told to 'grow up' after 'pathetic' Aston Villa reveal - pundit

It is “pathetic” to suggest Axel Tuanzebe did not get regular game time at Aston Villa under Steven Gerrard because he is a Man United palyer.

That is the view of ex-Man City and England defender Danny Mills, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Tuanzebe cut his loan deal short to join Napoli until the end of the season.

Villa confirmed last Saturday (8 January) he had left the club to link up with the Serie A side on loan.

His agent Dimitri Tuanzebe told ESPN on Monday (10 January) he felt Gerrard’s association with Liverpool was hurting the versatile defender’s chances of having a sustained run in the team.

Tuanzebe managed just eight minutes of Premier League action in two substitute appearances under Gerrard at Villa.

“Grow up, that’s pathetic,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Any manager is only concerned about his team. Let’s just say he had Cristiano Ronaldo, you think he’s not going to play him because he played for United? Come on, pull the other one.

“That’s nonsense, that’s ridiculous. It’s an agent trying to find an excuse and poke the wasp nest.

“If I’m a manager I’m purely concerned about winning games, playing well and putting in performances.

“You won’t care where that player is from. If he makes that player better it makes him look better.

“You can say ‘Man United didn’t rate him but I turned him into a player, look how good I am’. I think that’s absolute nonsense from his agent.”

Tuanzebe has now played 46 times for Villa across three separate loan spells.

He was part of the side that won promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs during the 2018-19 campaign.
