Nottingham Forest are not looking to sign Walsall midfielder Erhun Oztumer as Mark Warburton is happy with the options he already has, according to a report.
The Express and Star claims that Forest, and three other Championship clubs, are not preparing bids for the 25-year-old.
News outlet HITC reported on Wednesday that Forest, Sheffield United, Bristol City and Bolton were looking to sign the Walsall playmaker, who has been dubbed by fans as the ‘Turkish Messi’ due to his physique and style of play.
However the latest report says that key players Zach Clough and Ben Osborn will remain in Warburton’s plans next season and that he won’t be looking for a new player to play in the No 10 role.
It is understood that the Saddlers could be forced to risk losing Oztumer for free next season when he contract expires or face the prospect of cashing in on him in the summer transfer window.
The Express and Star reports that Sheffield United have expressed interest in the League One team of the season player but they have offered a contract to Jay O’Shea who plays in the same position.
Oztumer has enjoyed a great season at the Banks’s Stadium in which he has scored 15 times and supplied seven assists in 41 appearances across all competitions.
Football Insider Verdict
With Clough only just arriving at the City Ground in January, it makes sense that Warburton would look to improve his squad elsewhere. Oztumer is a great player and could possibly make the step up the the Championship in the future but one of the main areas that Warburton needs to bolster is in defence. Forest look as though they will need a new set of full-backs in the summer as players return to their parent clubs after loan spells and a new goalkeeper would also be a worthy investment thanks to Stephen Henderson’s long-term injury and the poor performances of his back-up options.
In other Nottingham Forest news, Angelos Marinakis is likely to earn approval for his takeover of the East Midlands club.
