Ciaran Clark is set to undergo a medical at Newcastle on Tuesday – but Aston Villa supporters do not appear too devastated at losing the academy graduate.
There is a sense that the Villa centre-back had not lived up to expectation since making his debut as a teenager in 2009.
BBC reporter Pat Murphy revealed on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday morning that Clark is set to put the finishing touches to a move to St James’ Park.
One aspect in which the Villa support seemed to agree on is that Clark was error prone during his time at the club and was not able to fulfil his potential.
However, others were disappointed that the 26-year-old is moving to a rival with both teams looking to push for promotion this season after relegation last term.
One supporter pointed out that manager Roberto Di Matteo and owner Tony Xia claimed that no other player had a release clause in their contract after Idrissa Gueye’s £7.1 million release clause was activated by Everton.
But, many gave their best wishes to the hard working centre-back as despite his mistakes he did give his all for the club.

Don't understand Clark to Newcastle. Sideways step for player & weak signing for Newcastle. He's an OK player. Backup at best. #AVFC
