Alan Hutton admits he was left stunned by the energy levels of Leeds United after watching them in person against Aston Villa.
The former Villa and Scotland star, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, has lauded Marcelo Bielsa’s side for the way they confounded their doubters against Dean Smith’s men.
A Patrick Bamford hat-trick sealed a 3-0 win for the Yorkshire outfit and condemned Villa to their first Premier League defeat of the season.
Hutton told Football Insider: “The energy of the team was phenomenal, to sit there and actually watch it. It’s different with stuff on TV but to be at the stadium and watch it, wow, it was unbelievable.
“The energy, every single player, I was tired watching it. They could run all day – you say to yourself, they’re going to tire, you can’t play like this for 90 minutes on a big pitch but they did.
“It was really interesting to watch and see, they must train really hard. They were always high energy but I think they’re in the Premier League, they’re buying into everything he wants and it’s getting results.
“You can run over the top of teams, we’ve seen that in their earlier performances and their confidence is high. That confidence level, we knew they were a good team in the Championship but they’re starting to believe they belong here.”
Leeds currently sit sixth in the Premier League table after three wins, a draw and two defeats in their opening six games of the season.
