New Celtic signing Charly Musonda has explained why he joined the Hoops ahead of a host of other clubs who were interested in him.
The 21-year-old Chelsea attacking midfielder has joined the Bhoys on an 18 month loan deal and once he found out that Brendan Rodgers’ side were interested he had no hesitation in deciding to move to Glasgow.
“It’s simple for me – Celtic is a massive club. It’s a club with many fans, an unbelievable passion, and the culture is more than a club” he said to CelticTV, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
“Those were the most important things, and I wanted to go somewhere where I would enjoy my football, and I know the manager as well. I am very happy to be here.”
Musonda also revealed that he was close to transferring to the Bhoys in the summer but the move fell through.
“It’s a massive club and I am really looking forward to it. I was quite close to coming last summer but it didn’t happen.
“I spoke again with the manager a couple of weeks ago and I said I had a feeling that this is where I want to come and play my football. I am very lucky to be here and I am very happy to be here.”
Musonda could be in line to make his Hoops debut in the match against Hearts at Celtic Park on Tuesday night.
The Belgian will be tasked with providing the creativity that the Hoops have lacked since long-term injuries took Patrick Roberts and Tom Rogic out of the first-team picture.
The Bhoys will be without Leigh Griffiths and Craig Gordon for the game against Hearts, with Griffiths ruled out for a month with a calf injury and Gordon ruled out for up to three months with a knee injury.
The Hoops will be looking to maintain their 11 point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table against a Hearts side who remain the only team to have defeated Celtic in the league so far this season.
