Steven Gerrard will be “over the moon” that Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo marked his return to the starting eleven with a goal, according to Noel Whelan.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Aberdeen and Leeds United striker claimed that the Gers believe that “nobody can touch them” on current form.

The Teddy Bears moved six points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership, although Celtic have a game in hand, after a comfortable 2-0 victory over Livingston on Sunday.

Aribo and Defoe grabbed the goals, the former making his return to the starting eleven from an ankle injury suffered in mid-August.

Whelan claims the goal will do wonders for the 24-year-old’s confidence after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

“That goal will do him the world of good,” he told Football Insider.

“Rangers are getting players back at the right time in good, confident moods.

“That goal will give him the belief again and push him into that happy place as a player. Steven Gerrard must be absolutely over the moon.

“The job the backroom staff have done, the way that they have turned this team around is remarkable. They have got a nice control to every single game now and they look like a team that is not going to get beat at the minute.

“They have the belief as a unit that nobody can touch them right now.”
