Alex Bruce insists that Manchester United winger Jesse Lingard would be a “very good signing” for Everton this summer.
The former Premier League defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, claims that the 27-year-old needs a manager to show some “faith” in him after a turbulent time at Old Trafford.
Metro report that the Toffees are joined by Arsenal in chasing a potential £30million deal for the England international but that the attacker is keen to remain with the Red Devils.
Bruce believes Lingard has not been given the game time he needs to flourish by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and that regular action elsewhere would do him the world of good.
Bruce told Football Insider: “He’s been linked with Everton, he’s been linked with Arsenal from what I’ve seen – he’s a player that just needs to go and play.
“I’m a big believer that players need to play to show their potential. It’s very difficult for a player to go into a team, play one game every four or five weeks. His opportunities at Man United have been a little bit limited.
“Some of the off-the-pitch hasn’t helped him. However, I think he would be a very good signing for Everton, he’d be a good signing for everybody. I think he’s got big potential, he needs someone to show a little bit of faith in him.”
Lingard has played 35 times across all competitions this season, although only nine of those appearances came as starts in the Premier League.
He has a total of 202 games under his belt for the top-flight giants, as well as 24 caps for England.
