Danny Mills admits he was staggered to see suggestions that Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino could quit the club after the north London derby against Arsenal.
The former Leeds and Manchester City defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, says that he cannot understand where the rumours might have come from and that he finds it strange Pochettino has given them some credence by commenting on them in his press conference.
Pochettino called the suggestion he could leave the north Londoners in the imminent future “stupid”, insisting he was not going to be walking away.
Mills says he found the whole situation very strange and questioned why the manager would even choose to address the rumours.
Mills told Football Insider: “Incredible rumours that Pochettino is going to leave after the game, not sure where that’s all come from. Pochettino’s come out and said that’s ridiculous.
“It’s very strange for that to have come out and leak out and for Pochettino to come out and almost give the rumour a bit of credibility to. That’s a strange situation.”
Tottenham have won, drawn and lost their opening three games of the season, with Newcastle United managing to secure a shock 1-0 win in north London last weekend.
They face an Arsenal side who were beaten 3-1 by Liverpool in their last outing, having won their first two games of the campaign.
