Darren Bent claims that Aston Villa fans would “fall in love” with Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos if their side were able to snap him up from Ibrox.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Villa and England hitman says that the Colombian is someone that supporters are naturally drawn to due to his attacking flair and quality, despite having proven himself as a liability through his lack of discipline.

As revealed by Football Insider, Dean Smith’s men have set aside £20million to bolster their centre forward options this season and have set their sights on a potential move for the South American ace after his blistering form in Scotland.

Bent insists that the supporters at Villa Park would ignore his hot-headedness if he were to move south of the border and says he would love to see the 23-year-old given a chance in England’s top flight.

Bent told Football Insider: “The Villa fans would love him. For whatever reason, fans, with this type of player, they never really look at the fact he might get sent off, that he’s a bit of a troublemaker. They just love him. They absolutely love him.

“Villa fans will fall in love with him. He works hard, he tries really, really hard. He is someone that I would call a test. There is always something going on around him. He knows where the goal is and he always scores goals.

“I’d love to see him in the Premier League and I think he’d be a great fit.”

Morelos, a three-cap Colombia international, netted 30 goals across all competitions last season but also saw himself fall foul of the officials on numerous occasions, with five red cards,  and further retrospective punishment resulting in him spending a number of games suspended.

He has continued to hit the back of the net on a regular basis this campaign, with 14 goals in 18 appearances, while he has not been booked once in the Scottish Premiership yet.

In other Aston Villa news, Darren Bent admits he is “uncertain” about one new Villa arrival who started the win against Norwich City.
