Vladimir Smicer has urged Liverpool sign to Monaco attacker Kylian Mbappe.
The 18-year-old has torn apart Ligue 1 this season and has also had a huge impact in the Champions League knock-out stages, scoring six goals in six games before his side were knocked out by Juventus earlier this week.
Mbappe has scored a total of 25 goals in all competitions for Monaco this term and Anfield hero Smicer believes that a player of his calibre could fire Liverpool towards the top of the Premier League table.
“Daniel Sturridge has had a lot of problems this season,” said the 43-year-old to the Liverpool Echo.
“It’s probably cost us the title. If we had a striker who had scored 20 goals plus, who knows? We could be top.
“I like the Monaco striker Mbappe. Everything looks so natural to him. I like the way he plays. He would definitely be very expensive.
“All the big clubs in Europe will chase him so it would be difficult to get him, but if I was the Liverpool manager I’d go for him.”
Despite his tender age, Mbappe has already become a standout player in what has been a very impressive Monaco team this year and has already earned two caps for the France international team.
He found the net in both legs of Manchester City’s round of 16 defeat in the Champions League before firing a brace in a 3-2 win at Borussia Dortmund.
Smicer spent six years at Anfield and was part of the legendary 2005 Champions League winning team.
The former Czech Republic international was also a member of the 2001 win treble winning squad and made a total of 184 appearances for the Merseyside club, scoring 19 goals.
