Tottenham may offer Kyle Walker-Peters in part exchange for Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer, Football Insider understands.

Spurs have made the Saints 24-year-old their top midfield target in the next window but will be operating from a restricted transfer budget.

A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that the club are set to explore possible swap and part-exchange options to land Hojbjerg.

One strong option is Walker-Peters, the right-back who has been on loan at St Mary's Stadium since January.

The 22-year-old appeared to burn some bridges with a thinly-veiled dig at Jose Mourinho in March  for the way he froze him out at Hotspur Way before his move.

Walker-Peters used an interview with the official Southampton website to resoundingly hail Mauricio Pochettino's methods while bemoaning Mourinho for ignoring him and preferring Serge Aurier.

As revealed by Football Insider earlier this month, the Londoners have been given encouragement in their pursuit of Hojbjerg.

He has knocked back multiple Saints attempts to extend his contract and his current deal expires in the summer of 2021.

The next window represents Southampton's last chance of securing a major fee for him.

However, it will not be an easy deal for Tottenham to tie up as their own budget is likely to be limited due to the financial chaos caused by Covid-19.

There is also strong competition for Hojbjerg, with Everton also very keen on signing him.

He arrived on the south coast carrying a hamstring injury and has only made one appearance so far.
