Jackie McNamara expressed concern for Celtic attacker Mohamed Elyounoussi after his performance in the 1-0 win over Rangers.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Parkhead hero revealed that he didn’t think Elyounoussi looked quite right on Sunday.
The 25-year-old Hoops attacker played 45 minutes of the Scottish League Cup victory over Rangers before being hauled off.
McNamara explained that Elyounoussi looked way off his game on Sunday and suggested that he was still feeling the effects of his recent injury.
The former Celtic hero acknowledged that Neil Lennon made the right decision to substitute him rather than wait to see if he improved.
When asked if Sunday’s game just past Elyounoussi by, McNamara told Football Insider: “Yeah he’s just come back from injury and he’s not quite right.
“He didn’t look as good as what he has been recently when he’s played but that’s the effect the injury has had.
“But aye, he was way off it and obviously coming off at half-time was the right decision.”
Ahead of the clash with Steven Gerrard’s side, Elyounoussi missed four games due to a foot injury.
The Norwegian winger has played a total of 13 times for the Hoops this season since joining on loan from Southampton and has racked up seven goals as well as six assists so far.
Elyounoussi is due to return to the Saints at the end of this season when his loan deal ends, with the 25-year-old contracted to the Premier League club until 2023.
