'Big favourites' - Mikael Lustig makes claim ahead of Celtic clash v Rangers
Celtic right-back Mikael Lustig has claimed that the Hoops should be firm favourites for the Hoops’ upcoming Scottish Cup semi-final against Rangers on Sunday.
With the Hoops unbeaten in three matches against their bitter rivals this season, and also 12 points ahead in the Scottish Premiership league table, the Swede believes that the Hoops are more than capable of handling the pressure of being favourites for the game.
“You just look at what we done in the league and in Europe and the fact we’ve already won the League Cup so we should be favourites, absolutely,” Lustig said, as quoted by STV.
“We feel good, the last couple of times that we’ve been in at Hampden we played really good football and we won so we’re looking forward to it.
“We know that we will be big favourites.”
The Hoops have won two and drawn the other of their three games against the Gers so far this season, most recently winning 3-2 at Ibrox having played with 10 men for 40 minutes, with results like that it’s little wonder that Lustig sees the Hoops as favourites.
Football Insider verdict
It might be slightly arrogant, but it is hard to argue with a single word Lustig says. The Hoops are the better team, and should be firm favourites to reach the Scottish Cup Final and move one step away from a second successive domestic treble. Of course, the best team doesn’t always win, so the Hoops will need to guard against any complacency on the day, and there’s no doubt that Graeme Murty will have his side fired up as they attempt to save their season, but if the Hoops play to the best of their ability then they should get the win and Lustig’s comments will have been proven correct.
