Wenger set for transfer u-turn over club-captain after Arsenal offer tabled – report

Arsenal are set to make a surprise return into the transfer market by bringing Oguzhan Ozyakup back to the Emirates, according to a report.
Aksam the Turkish media outlet has revealed that the Besiktas midfielder who is yet to sign a new contract with the Turkish side is free to discuss a move in the summer as he has less than six months remaining on his current deal.
And as the outlet understands, Arsene Wenger has already tabled an offer for the 25-year-old after holding personal talks with the star.
If the reports are true it’s a big turnaround for the player after leaving Arsenal for a nominal fee.
After leaving the Gunners in July 2012, Ozyakup has gone from strength to strength in the Super Lig and with Besiktas whom he is the captain of.
Football Insider verdict:
Ozyakup struggled under his first spell in North London and you only have to look at Paul Pogba to see that a return to a club doesn’t necessarily mean it will be successful. The 25-year-old struggled for game time before he departed for Turkey. However, he clearly knows how to win titles, having won the previous two in the Super Lig for Besiktas. Wenger is desperately in need of midfielders to boost their chances of getting back into the top four next season but how the Turk will aid that, only Wenger knows.
